Let us all be real. For a song to be a truely grand musical experience you need some bold, edgy, and really unique composition! The guitar solos can find their way in and around that!

I voted for percussion (and I assume that includes drumming, atleast it does IMO). It really takes an incredible drummer to take a song to the next level, be it the composed sections, the free form jams, or the guitar soloing and peaking. You cannot have a really amazing guitar solo peak without a great drumming bringing on the heat behind the guitarist. just my 2 cents

i absolutely agree bob. though i was particularly meaning auxilary percussion, not set, just as an added ingredient, but I am glad you feel so strongly about the drums as a whole. the most important thing for the guy (or girl) behind the kit, is their ability to listen to the others in the group, support them, lead when they need to and just create a full sound to keep the group rockin! at least, thats what i try to do.
